Reiki Treatment

Reiki is the most gentle of therapeutic practices. A system where hands are gently placed on or near specific hand positions.

The word Reiki translates to mean "Universal Lifeforce Energy ", it is the energy that is found in every living thing. The practice of Reiki began in Japan in the early part of the twentieth century. It's founder was Mikao Usui. Reiki today is practiced all across the world.

Reiki flows through the practitioner to the recipient. The energy passes along channels within and around the recipient, gently clearing blockages and encouraging energy flow.

Reiki is found to help all manner of conditions. It helps to bring balance in all aspects of who we are, Mind, Emotion, Physical well-being and Spirit. When one or more of these aspects is unbalanced, the other parts are affected too.

Reiki has its own intelligence. It flows to where it's needed, most often the cause of the issue and gently releases the energy blockage, leading to a more balanced and energised state.

Most people will describe the experience as being deeply relaxing and peaceful. It is in this state of balance that our bodies own ability to heal takes place.

The practitioners' hands, at times, feel very warm or unusually cold. Some feel the sensation of many hands being placed on them. This is Reiki working in many places at the same time. You may become aware of energy moving through the body and you might experience feelings of peace and compassion.

A gentle release of emotions may occur. This is all evidence of Reiki helping emotions to find balance.

Reiki continues to work in the hours and days following the treatment. We are encouraged to treat ourselves gently, give ourselves the time we deserve for our well-being, take note of how we feel, listen to our body and what it needs.

On a first Reiki session, a brief description of the treatment is given and where the hand positions are.

Any questions or concerns will answered.

You are never touched anywhere intimate, and if there are places you do not want to be touched, for instance feet or neck, then these places will not be touched.

You can say at any time during the treatment if anything feels uncomfortable.

A treatment is usually carried out with the recipient laying on a therapy couch. But it is possible to receive a treatment sitting on a chair.

Shoes are removed and any tight clothing loosened. Reiki is always given to people who are fully clothed.

Help is given to get comfortable and gentle music is played to help with relaxation.

The Reiki practitioner gently places their hands on or close to the body through a sequence of hand positions, starting at the head and working down towards the feet.

When the treatment is finished the practitioner will say so, assist the recipient to sit up, give them a glass of water and recommend that water be taken regularly to help cleanse the energy body.

A few minutes is given to allow for any questions about the treatment.

People ask how many treatments are recommended?

There are not strict rules about this and each person seeking Reiki is different.

Generally, three treatments are recommended, once a week or a fortnight. Three treatments in succession gives Reiki a chance to work through blocks in a person's energy pathways.

Some issues are deeper seated than others. Some just need a gentle reminder for the body to heal itself. Others need more time.

It is up to the person seeking Reiki and to a lesser extent the practitioner, to decide how many Reiki treatments will be of help.

Some people have regular sessions to maintain balance or give themselves a treat, to enjoy the peace and relaxation Reiki brings.
